Will tomorrow be brighter?
Since the release of the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 BETA, the hype for the battlefield series was nowhere shy of incredible. Old teams began to reform and many Call of Duty 4 players disappointed with Infinity Wards Joke of Modern Warfare 2 were looking into the Battlefield series. The BETA had fairly smooth launch if you factor out the lag on release. Some saw that BC2 had serious potential while others did not anticipate the release of the retail game. On March 2 our prayers were answered from DICE with the release of a great game that put BF2 to shame so we thought, or did it?
Just kidding, it is still an amazing game and it is also a sequel to Bad Company 1 which was not on the PC. DICE did indeed perform with spectacular maps with completely destructable enviornments, it almost feels like Crysis. There is a variety of vehicles and maps, some of which I have never player since I stuck only to conquest, but when I did play them, I was thoroughly impressed. There are a few flaws in the game that prevent it from being played competetively which is the only downside.
Possibly the only thing that is holding Bad Company 2 back from being the number one game to compete in is the lack of features you can change on a server. Something that would be required is a start delay at the beginning of a round so everyone does not have to reload the map which would give the team with faster computers a huge advantage. Another problem is the fact that you can't see the ticket count at the end of the round so it is hard to prove who had more tickets if you go to a third round, or just for scoring purposes. The other issues are the lack of spectator mode, free cam, and demo recordings which are essential to shoutcast and review matches. If DICE implements these, BC2 will be the best game to compete in hands down.
On the bright side, TWL is hosting a Kickoff tournament for Bad Company 2 which will be a single elimination bracket with two divisions. There will be frustrating times in organizing the matches correctly however it also starts off the game for competition. We picked division two so we get to play Check Six, Rebels of Mankind, Dynamic/Team HOT, and Massive Unit. So when we win, we're #1 ;) Also 20ID and nL want to compete so this opening tournament with limited admin capabilities is loaded with experienced and talented teams. Can't wait to OWN =)
